Remedial Therapy is the assessment and treatment of soft tissue dysfunctions that cause pain and restrict movement. The assessment involves a health history, a postural analysis, motion testing and a range of other physical testing procedures. Based on the assessment, we develop a 'working diagnosis' (an explanation based on known facts uncovered during examination). From this we prepare a treatment plan. The treatment performed by a remedial therapist consists of a variety of techniques such as Swedish Massage, Neuromuscular techniques, Myofascial release, Muscle energy techniques, Positional release techniques, Mobilizing techniques and Therapeutic exercise.
Remedial Therapy is just one healing modality that fits under the umbrella of natural medicine. Central to its practice is the premise that the body has an innate ability to heal itself. When sick or injured, a person provided with adequate rest, nutrition and nurturing does have the capacity to heal themselves. Remedial massage as a therapy can be of immense benefit in this process by assisting a person to rest, and providing nurturing stimulus.
